10.3.08 / How's Your Brand? Ask the Cloud

The concept is simple, and its application is huge:  tag clouds that gauge the effectiveness of a brand logo.  With brandtags.net, creator Noah Brier has a marketing measurement tsunami on his hands.

Just as the concept of the site is simple, so is its interface.  Users are presented with a brand logo, and in a text line underneath, they are encourage to enter the first thing—a word or a phrase—that pops into their head.  By clicking submit, the word or phrase that popped into their head is joined to the million plus things that popped into the minds of other users.  Then, just like magic, a macro brand expression is formed: to see how you and others perceive the brand, just click on the tag cloud.  As with all tag clouds, the most popular “first impressions” are writ large, while the least popular ones are miniscule.

Brand owners can submit their brands to be to the site, though Noah reserves the right to add or not add any logo he wants.  I can’t think of a better way for marketers to get a quick and effective macro view of their brand’s effectiveness . . . nor a cheaper one.  Tip your hat to Noah: he came up with a fantastic idea.
